Het Gasthuys (The Guesthouse) occupies an iconic monument in the beautiful old part of Amerongen. In 1850 the property was located where the village flows seamlessly over into the floodplain, built as a two-under-one-roof house. The house was in the possession of the noble Bentinck family (residents and owners of Amerongen Castle) for many years. The property passed into the hands of the Bellaar Spruijt couple in 1970; they resided in Amerongen after a working life as diplomats. They were the ones who restored the house which had been in a fairly dilapidated state into former glory. In December 2009, the house is completely restored maintaining it’s authentic details.

Through the main gate of Amerongen Castle, you can catch a glimpse of the wild Konik horses, geese and grazing cows. The floodplains have been transformed into a stunning natural landscape that offers refuge to many birds in breeding season. The many geese that breed and graze there regularly fly over the house in their well known V-formation. These test flights will eventually bring them to warmer places for the winter.

The principle of Het Gasthuys is that you feel welcome and at home. So it can’t be a coincidence that we came out on top in the MAX (Dutch tv broadcasting station) ‘Best B&B’ competition.

We’re looking forward to your arrival.
